Online Poker Tourneys Bringing Record Numbers

Pokerstars-championship-pkrThe PokerStars World Championship of online poker is drawing players in record numbers. The series got under way this weekend and the events are bringing in people from all across the world.

Two events began on Friday night and the numbers of entries were staggering. In the first event, a $215 buy in tournament, 7,217 players entered. That created a prize fund of more than $1.4 million.

This year is the seventh time that the PokerStars World Championship of online poker has taken place, and with the popularity of online poker growing, so too is the World Championships.

The tournaments that have began since Friday have varied in the number of participants. Event two drew 156 entrants, and on Saturday, a No Limit Hold’em event with a $215 buy in drew over 2,000 players.

The tournaments are continuing and two are sticking out from the crowd. Both of them are $10,300 and the High Roller No Limit Hold’em event will be one of the biggest to ever be offered online.
